Bio

“I love seeing myself through your eyes.” – Luciana

I was always interested in photography but never really pursued it until one day in the late 80′s when I realized that photography was my way of getting up close and personal with my first love – tennis.

I grew up in Washington, DC but went to school at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and the 80′s and 90′s were good for my Alma matter with many of our players successfully making a name for themselves in the world of professional tennis. I was at home in DC for the summer and one of our players was competing in an exhibition called 2000/Love. The headliners for the tournament were John McEnroe and a very young, very hairy newcomer named Andre Agassi. I managed to obtain a press pass to the tournament and while shooting the match from the court I caught the photography bug – permanently.

“Jeffrey, if it wasn’t for you I may never have become a model. Thank you!!!” – Sulivan Mellencamp

For the next 12 years I shot for the ATP and WTA tours, shooting tournaments around the world. My home base changed often during this period, and I spent a couple of years in New York City, two years in Hong Kong and two in Tokyo Japan. During this time I travelled the world, visiting Europe, Asia, and Africa in my travels. It was while living in Tokyo, after spending countless hours on some of the hottest (literally and figuratively) tennis courts around the world, that I decided that I’d had enough of the dehydration and sunburn and decided to move on.

“Artistic. Inspired. Creative. Ingenious! Photographer Jeff Haas embodies all of those characteristics and more! He uses his creative prowess to go above and beyond just “shooting a picture”, but rather capturing a moment in time, chalk full of emotion and passion.” – Katie Hoppel

While on my travels I spent much of my time photographing some of the most beautiful locations in the world, and at this point I was at a crossroads, and an acquaintance of mine asked if I’d ever considered fashion photography. I was hooked. Another year in Japan working on my craft and it was time to come home to the US, and I made my way back to my college town – Knoxville, Tennessee. I’ve been back for almost a decade and I’ve made this city my home.

It’s impossible to pigeon hole me into one specific genre of photography, although many have tried. From sports to beauty to landscapes to weddings, I’ve photographed them all. I essentially only have one goal when I’m working – regardless of the subject, make the final photo as visually appealing as I possibly can by whatever means is necessary. My work and styles, like myself, are ever evolving and on any given day I may move in a new and exciting direction. I like challenges, I like unpredictability, and there has never been a rush like the one I get when I know I’ve captured the perfect image.
